Throughout the grounds of the Winchester Cemetery, a silent whisper can be heard about a people and place.  Rich in history, the Cemetery encompasses the story of a 200 year old community through those who have been memorialized within its grounds.  As you stroll along the winding paths, listen to the tale of a day gone by. Tales of triumph and tragedy, heartbreak and laughter, and peace and war saturate the monument covered landscape.  Much more than just a place for burial, the Cemetery represents a lasting testimony to the people who helped shape a community.

The Winchester Cemetery was established in 1854.  One provision of the Articles of Incorporation was "The land and appurtenances when conveyed to said Company shall be held solely and exclusively for a cemetery and ornamental grounds connected therewith and shall never be alienated, sold, or used for any other purpose whatsoever".  Today the Cemetery covers approximately 55 acres of land.  It is owned by the lot owners and operated by an elected board of directors.  The Winchester Cemetery Board of Directors and the staff strive to maintain this sacred land with honor and dignity.  With the cooperation of the lot owners and those who visit, the Cemetery will continue to be a place of beauty and a sacred place of burial for those we love.
